A Little About Larkin Racing

"FIRST"; On our Arizona Stunt Page, We have a little blurb about The American Cowboy; I believe I can honestly say that Flat Track Motorcycle Racers: At least the ones we have become acquainted with over the last 35 years, could  "EQUATE" to being  American Cowboys on Wheels. Read it for yourselves and make up your own minds. They look after each other, they loan each other Bikes and Equipment. They haul to races with other racers; They Congratulate each other for a good race or ride, even if they did not win. What more needs to be said? Now! Before we get into our own  Acknowledgement's, we would like to take a few moments to thank the people; Who throughout the years have helped us to LEARN/RIDE AND GROW, at a sport we love; "FLAT TRACK MOTORCYCLE RACING", A True American Extreme Racing Sport; These names are not in any particular order, However we would First of all like to give our Thanks and our Prayers to the Late Merlyn Plumlee. He took his own time and experience to help several local riders around Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he worked at Browkaw Yamaha, for Annie & Bill; who also helped with our very first sponsorship. With much sorrow; We have just learned of the passing of Annie and would like to wish her God's speed; She will be in our prayers. Merlyn took & taught Kelly and Shaun, when they were still riding 80cc motorcycles; What racing and winning was all about. He was very instumental in Kelly winning his first PRO State Championship; Becoming the youngest person in Colorado Flat Track to win a PRO class the 250cc class. And then a year later, Kelly became the youngest rider in Colorado 's SCRA Race history to win the OPEN PRO Class. Also after they graduated into the bigger bores, Neil Keen & Larry Kennedy of Starracer Frames helped them along further, as well as Carl Patrick / Banke Exhaust and a few more. Even now as we continue to race; We would  like to thank Larry Beall, whom just passed away; Tom Powers / Jim Wood / Orbin & Scotty Adams. And there are more people that have loaned us motorcycles to ride, when we broke. I will add them later, when I can remember their names. " All of these people, are what make Flat Track Racing, the Greatest; Truest Dirt Track Racing Sport; Alive any where".

"LARKIN RACING" ; Is mainly a family oriented team. Kelly, the oldest started riding a motorcycle (50cc)Honda when he was around 5 or 6 years old. Brother Shaun soon followed in his footsteps. In 1974, Kelly and Shaun both started racing/ At first they tried Motocross, but soon found their hearts and talents were in "Flat Track Racing".  They did still race Motocross at times just to stay in racing shape. Kelly's first race bike was a Honda XL-70, but we soon found out that we would need a much more competitive bike, so we bought an Indian 75cc. From there we went to YZ Yamaha 80's / 125's / 175's / 360' & 250's / 500's & 600's and then of course to the Open Class, riding Harley XR 750's. Both Kelly and Shaun, have always had the will, the talent and the eagerness to do well, as have many other Talented competitors through out the country. And as well as some of the others; They have over the years,  not had the SPONSORS / EQUIPMENT or FINANCES, to campaign on the GNC Level, the way they would have liked. Both are still racing today as well as Kelly's two sons, Kylle & Kolton Larkin. Our youngest team member whom just started, is the son of the Larkin boys sister-Kandi. His name? "Zachery LARKIN MASSEY". Kandi wanted to keep the Larkin name attached.

JUST A FEW RACING HIGH LIGHTS :
Kelly and Shaun have been at this Flat Track Racing for so long that there would not be time or room to list all of their accomplishments. They have won literally hundreds of Trophy's, most of them have been given away. But just to list a few.

Kelly;  In 1978; at age 16, was the youngest Rider to win the Colorado State Championship in the 250cc PRO class. He obtained his AMA Novice license in July of the same year. He also was the youngest to win the OPEN PRO class at age 17: He won this class in 1979/1980 & 1981;   As  AMA PRO.;  over the last 30 years he has held on and off AMA National Numbers  64 / 87 & 79, in that order. You will see A few other race numbers on the bike in pictures that Kelly is seen in  -157 / 3 / 4 / 11u / 3g / 110g / 13g / 17x / 28 / 64g / 72 / 79g / 75 / and a few more.

Shaun; One of Shaun's main goals was to win a national Number and although he was and is a very fast competitor, He has not had the opportunity to travel as much as he would have liked, Along with having bad breaks along the way; As most flat Trackers know to well.  And his  Job in Phoenix, AZ., limited his racing time. He did however win 12 straight main event in the 250cc PRO class the first or second year he moved to Arizona. He also won the Arizona State Championship Open PRO. class for the last few years or 2004/2005/ 2006 & 2007. He finished 6th in the Nation in the AMA OPEN HOT SHOE class in 2003. He has as well, won An AHRMA NATIONAL or two and has also won Vintage Class event in EDDIE MULDERS AND GENE ROMERO'S race series.. a few of Shaun race numbers are A M A number 112g  / 18g / 10g & 17g / 21g, in that order.  A few of his younger year numbers were, 89 / 4 / 6e / 11js / 16f, and more that I can't remember.

WE GIVE OUR THANKS & CREDIT BY SHOWING; Pictures of the late Merlyn Plumlee & Kelly Larkin accepting their Number 1 Plate for Colorado State Championship; Merlyn was the OPEN Champion and Kelly was the 250cc Champion; in 1978; The Second Picture was Merlyn standing just behind Shaun Larkin as he received his 4th place trophy in the 250 cc Class. The 3rd & 4th pictures is a person that has stood behind Kelly and Shaun for the last 33 years as  a sponsor, a supporter and their mother; Dorothy Larkin.; With out her help, we could not have achieved any of the goals that we did. "THANKS MOM".
